Jenny & Phil’s is one of the more recent cafe arrivals on Newland Avenue in Hull.
This is one of the first “Produce Cafés” in the area and one walks in to an attractive display of seasonal vegetables and a blackboard proudly proclaiming that by eating here you are supporting 20 local businesses.
Quotes reflecting Phil’s passion for food abound on the chalkboards.
Local hull based artisan roasters “The Blending Room” supply the coffee.
The cappuccino that I ordered was well made with a gorgeous rounded flavour and a good balance of milk to coffee.
The coffee is also served in sensible sized cups, rather than the unauthentic and ridiculous soup tureens favoured by Costas!
We were most impressed by the obvious passion for coffee that Jenny & Phils have, the details of todays roast being on the tables.
Coffee Score 9/10
The specialities include pizza, which is served on wooden boards and panini.
I ordered the roast beef, Stilton and onion panini, and could not have been more impressed, no insipid white factory made panini roll here, instead the roasted onions, crumbly Stilton and roast beef are served in a wonderful and crispy Ciabatta slice, with a small side salad. This was exceptional.
Food Offer Score 9/10
The decor is very modern and contemporary – dark grey walls, with subtle lighting over the tables which works very well indeed, this is a large, but snug and welcoming cafe, Which is furnished in an eclectic style with vintage furniture and curios all of which are on sale.
